Shenzhen University

Founded with Shenzhen, growing with China’s innovation capital

Established in 1983 alongside the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, Shenzhen University (SZU) has become one of China’s fastest-rising comprehensive universities, now ranked 452nd in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and 27th on the Chinese mainland. Its lakeside Lihu campus and newer Lizhi campus sit inside a city of 17 million people that is home to Tencent, Huawei, DJI and BYD. SZU is unusually well connected to that ecosystem: Tencent founder Ma Huateng and many of Shenzhen’s technology entrepreneurs are alumni, and the university’s optical engineering and physics research rank among the strongest in the country. For international students, SZU offers English-taught business degrees, competitive tuition, generous municipal and provincial scholarships, and internship access to one of the world’s densest concentrations of technology and manufacturing companies.
